A best-seller is improved!
FYI - We're pleased to announce that this hardwood salad bowl
has recently been improved!! We know... how? - It's such a great wooden salad bowl
already, and quite popular. Well, John McLeod of the
Vermont Bowl Company is never standing still and always
watching for ways to present an improved product.
There is a woodworking shop where, using machines over a
100 years old, craftspeople cut these historic wooden bowls
from massive blocks of hardwoods. Gnarled hands load the
blocks onto the spinning lathes and guide the specially shaped
knives so that bowl after bowl in ever increasing sizes is
wrested from the heart of the tree. For many years the
Vermont Bowl Company has
been proud to retail bowls such as these in our stores and
now we are offering them on our website. Because they come
straight from the tree they have all the individuality so
often sawn out or selected out. The darker wood you see in
a bowl is the old heartwood and the lighter is the sapwood
which is to the outside of the tree. If you are looking for
a plastic uniformity, don't bother with these bowls. These
wooden bowls are nature in true display. After the bowls are
cut to shape they are very carefully dried, then sanded
smooth, and once they arrive at the Vermont Bowl Company
they are given a special oil finish before being being shipped to customers.
These wooden salad bowls are not truly round but become somewhat
elliptical as they dry. Four sizes are available; 10", 12", 15"
and 8" diameter, in American Beech, Black Walnut, and Cherry
wood species. Wash them with warm soapy water
(never in the dishwasher) and they'll last for generations!

Maple Sugar Candy -
Our maple candy is made in small batches from 100% pure Vermont maple syrup and generally has a
shelf-life of one to two months. If the maple candy you receive has started to harden,
simply let us know and we'll send a replacement. You can extend the shelf-life of maple candy by placing the
candy in a zip lock bag, squashing the excess air out of the bag, and storing it in your refrigerator.
Chocolate-Maple candy should also be refrigerated as
soon as it arrives. Maple candy is also soft, so if your
candy should arrive damaged, simply let us know and we'll quickly send a replacement.
