The qualities of end grain cutting blocks were long appreciated
by purveyors of meats and poultry and anyone who required a working
surface upon which to work with a knife. As a young person growing
up in Scotland I remember the central position the large chopping
block occupied in every butcher's shop. We have taken the functionality
of the butcher's block and designed a cutting block with a presence
to fit with the most demanding of modern kitchen designs. Real butcher
block construction to protect your knive's cutting edge, not the
imitation style of just strips of wood glued together. Meticulously
crafted from end grain Yellow Birch with an accent surround of end
grain Black Walnut. The underside is cut to raise the board off the
counter with four corner legs showing. To accomodate some heavy
chopping a concealed central support is carved in to the underside.
This board will be an item of admiration in any setting.
Two Professional End Grain Board sizes are available;
Large 23" long x 15" wide x superthick at 2-1/2" (28 lbs.) and
Small 18-1/2" long x 12" wide x 2" thick.

Real butcher block construction! While John McLeod's
Professional End Grain Board is the ideal
chopping block for the kitchen, this Round End Grain Board
is well suited for both kitchen use and presentation.
If you're having a wedding reception, fund-raiser, grand
opening, or simply an important family gathering, the
Round End Grain Board is the cutting board to put at the
center of the table for cutting and serving. Crafted with
end grain Yellow Birch and
sized at 17-1/2" diameter and a hefty 3" thick, 19 lbs.
Rectangular End Grain Board (shown above)
While not as dramatic as our Professional End Grain Board
this is the board suited to most kitchens. It has all the
qualities of the Professional End Grain Board but in a
lighter more easily handled form. The generous length and the
undercut handles on the friendly curved ends make this board a
pleasure to have on the counter top. The cutting edge of your
knives will stay sharper longer due to the grain of the wood
being vertical. Sliced cold cuts set as buffet look right at
home on this board. Crafted with end grain Yellow Birch and
sized at 16" x 11" x 1 1/2" thick. It weighs 6 lbs.
