Bird's Eye Scottish Ashet
The strong connection between France and Scotland in days
gone by is evident in the corruption of the French Assiette
(plate) to the Scottish dialect Ashet. An Ashet is a shallow,
oval serving dish and it brings back fond memories of Sunday
lunches when food was served on a central ashet with the meat
or fowl presented in the center and garnished all around with
a choice of vegetables for the meal.
Here we have produced an Ashet with a distinctly Vermont
character by blending the Scottish traditional shape with the
beauty of Vermont Bird's Eye Maple.
Perhaps you do not wish to hide the beauty of the wood with
food, but can allow this elegant piece to be a decorative item
on a tabletop or used as a serving tray. This piece measures
17-1/2" long by 12" wide and is 3/4 of an inch thick.
**Because of the wide variation in Bird's Eye Maple we have
shown two photographs and the range we present will be within
parameters bounded by these two examples.
